All About Gallatin

Gallatin, a town of about 30,000, was established about 200 years ago as a fertile and beautiful homesteading site along the Cumberland River. That river remains one of Gallatin's most scenic and recreational attractions, and allows easy access to Old Hickory Lake. Gallatin has both an airport – with a 5,000-foot paved runway – and accessibility to major markets via the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway. Meanwhile Nashville and the Nashville International Airport – which serves dozens of major cities – is just a short drive from Gallatin.

Fans of the hit TV drama “Justified” may recall that in the third season of the show (which is about a U.S. Marshall played by actor Timothy Olyphant), one episode centered around a plot to rob a bank in downtown Gallatin. But in real life you are more likely to find action at the Gallatin Farmer’s Market, where local produce is sold on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The market venue is also available to rent for parties, concerts, and other events.

Meanwhile the town’s Civic Center – which most newcomers expect to be an auditorium – is actually the location of Gallatin’s fully equipped hometown fitness and wellness facility. There you’ll find everything your family needs to have fun staying fit, including a running track, basketball and racquetball courts, an indoor swimming pool, aerobics classes, and a spa and sauna.

The town of Gallatin also sponsors <strong>more than 50 special events each year. Those include the pre-historic American artifact show sponsored by the volunteer state archaeological society of Tennessee; a summer day camp for children; a kid’s fishing derby; a July rodeo; a Halloween pumpkin splash for kids, and multiple fitness runs for joggers of all levels. Gallatin is proud to be near its completion of a major greenway project, too, which includes a 4-mile track running from the Civic Center to Triple Creek Park.
